Policy and advocacy

Ideella Sverige works on issues that affect the conditions for volunteering and civic engagement across civil society and the non-profit sector. We raise awareness and develop policy proposals to strengthen the infrastructure that enables volunteering and civic engagement. We collaborate with relevant partners, take part in public debate, and engage in dialogue with and influence decision-makers.

Volunteering and civic engagement for a vibrant democracy

A strong civil society is built on people being able to organise freely, express their opinions, and get involved. Freedom of association, freedom of expression, and an independent civic space are fundamental to a vibrant democracy in which non-profit organisations can operate and influence society.

Conditions for strong non-profit organisations

Organising volunteers and supporting civic engagement are central to how civil society enables people to get involved and turn ideas into action. Strong non-profit organisations create opportunities for people to volunteer, develop ideas, and contribute to social development. The conditions under which organisations operate — such as resources, collaboration, and independence — are crucial for ensuring that volunteering and civic engagement have an impact.

Ideella Sverige’s Policy Platform

Ideella Sverige’s purpose is “to promote the conditions for volunteering and civic engagement within civil society and the non-profit sector, and to create opportunities for people to volunteer”. Ideella Sverige’s Policy Platform expresses the fundamental values on which Ideella Sverige’s work is based. The platform’s subject areas — An open civic space for a vibrant democracy, Conditions for strong non-profit organisations, and Sustainable and inclusive engagement — are rooted in and build on Ideella Sverige’s purpose.
